Episode 6: No More Pickle Juice
April 18, 2018A podcast where Elena and Jay, two queer Black women in the Bay Area, talk about art, art crushes, art world gossip, regular gossip, and millennial woes.
Taking their lead from patron saint Nicki Minaj, Jay and Elena are demanding equal respect in the capital-a Art world. Taking a hard look at arts institutions, our hosts discuss the recent dismissals of women in the art world as well as highlight the space(s) being carved out by women of color, subverting white male dominance within these same institutions. They discuss the importance if Wikipedia Edit-A-Thons, including the effort from Art Practical and Art+Feminism to build out the wikipedia pages of women and artists of color. Jay and Elena also chat it up with Bay Area-bae Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle about her solo exhibition The Retrieval at SFAC Galleries and ask how she fights against her own erasure and finds solace in humor, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, memes, and her son the Alphabet King.
